Wrap the whole house in warmth.

External insulation wraps every outside wall in a thick insulating layer and finishes it in fresh render — a new coat for the house, inside temperature to match. It's the biggest insulation job there is, the SEAI grant is the biggest to match, and the house looks brand new when the scaffolding comes down.

Is it right for my house?

go on so

A good fit if…

  • Solid-wall homes that can't be pumped — the wrap is the gold-standard fix
  • A home built and occupied before 2011 — that's what unlocks the grant
  • Tired pebble-dash or render — you're re-finishing the house anyway, insulate while you're at it
  • Anyone planning a heat pump — warm walls are what make the numbers work
hold off

Probably not, if…

  • Unfilled cavity walls — pumping does a similar job for a fraction of the price, do that first
  • A home built 2011 or later — no grant, and the walls are likely fine
  • Period brick facades you want to keep — internal insulation protects the look instead
  • Apartments — the wrap covers the whole building, so it's a management-company job

What's in the price

Toastythe docket
  • Insulation boards fixed to every external wall, to SEAI standard
  • A fresh weatherproof render finish in your choice of colour
  • Window sills, reveals, pipes and vents detailed and extended properly — where cheap jobs fail
  • Scaffolding, and the SEAI grant paperwork — we handle the claim

Not on this docket

  • Structural repairs to walls that need fixing first — priced honestly and separately
  • Windows and doors (though during the wrap is the smart time to do them)
  • Internal decoration — the whole job happens outside

No surprises at the till — anything extra is named at the free survey, never on the invoice.

The install

  1. measure

    1

    Survey and spec

We measure every elevation, check the walls are sound and dry, and agree the finish — then the grant application goes in before any work starts.

  2. install

    2

    One to two weeks outside

Scaffolding up, boards fixed and pinned, reveals and sills detailed, base coat, then the final render. All outside — you live normally throughout.

  3. enjoy

    A new-looking, warm house

The scaffolding comes down on what looks like a new build — and the first winter bill tells you what the walls were costing you.

The questions everyone actually asks

Do I qualify for the grant?

Built and occupied before 2011, work done by an SEAI-registered installer, and every external wall done — SEAI doesn't grant partial wraps. Up to €8,000 for a detached home, €6,000 for a semi, and we handle the paperwork.

Why do the whole house and not just the cold wall?

Two reasons: the grant requires it, and a part-wrapped house moves the cold spot instead of fixing it. The wrap works because it's continuous.

How disruptive is it?

Surprisingly little — the entire job happens outside. You'll have scaffolding up for a week or two and the doorbell rings a bit more, but no rooms are out of action.

External or internal — which should I do?

If your walls are solid and you want the whole house done in one go, external. If you want to start with a couple of rooms, or you have a brick face to keep, internal. The survey prices both honestly.

What about my brick or stone front?

A rendered wrap changes the look — some people wrap the sides and back and insulate the front internally instead. That's exactly the kind of thing the survey is for.

Does it need planning permission?

Usually not for a standard house, but there are exceptions — protected structures, some estates, and anything that changes the street character. We check before anything is ordered.
