How the grant works

Taken straight off your bill — you never wait on a refund. Figures as of 2026-09-05; we handle the application and the paperwork.
Paid off in years, earning for decades.
A typical Irish system pays for itself in five to eight years after the grant. Panels are warrantied for 25 and degrade about half a percent a year — so the last two decades of their life are close to free electricity.
What you don't use, you sell: the Clean Export Guarantee pays you for every unit you send to the grid. Or a battery keeps it for the evening — the quote prices both ways.
Is it right for my house?
A good fit if…
- A roof facing south, east or west — east–west actually spreads power nicely across the day
- Someone home during the day, or an EV/immersion to soak up the output
- A house or bungalow you own (apartments rarely work for rooftop solar)
- Thinking of a battery — solar and storage together is where the sums sing
Probably not, if…
- A heavily shaded or mostly north-facing roof — we'll tell you straight at the survey
- Planning to move within a couple of years — you may not see the payback yourself
- A roof that needs work soon — fix the roof first, panels last 25 years

The questions everyone actually asks
Does solar work in Irish weather?
Yes — panels run on daylight, not heat. Ireland gets about 70% of the solar resource of southern England, and modern panels are sized for exactly that. You'll generate most from March to October.
What happens to power I don't use?
It exports to the grid and your supplier pays you for it under the Clean Export Guarantee — or a battery stores it for the evening instead.
Do I need planning permission?
Almost never — rooftop solar on houses is exempt from planning in nearly all cases since 2022.
How long do panels last?
Panels are typically warrantied for 25 years and keep producing beyond that. The inverter usually needs replacing once in the system's life — we'll tell you when and what that costs.
Should I get a battery at the same time?
If you're out all day, usually yes — it roughly doubles how much of your own power you use. The quote flow prices both ways so you can see.
